  • preliminary medical examination by the general practitioner/internist

  • discontinuation of anticoagulant medication, e.g., Aspirin, Thomapyrin or ThromboAss, at least one week before and one week after the operation

  • limitation of alcohol and nicotine

At the end of the procedure, a so-called abdominal bandage is applied to ensure compression. A few days after the operation, depending on the amount of wound secretions, the drainage tubes are removed and the abdominal bandage is taken off and replaced by the compression garment.

  • wear the compression garment 24 hours a day for 6 weeks

  • no sport for 6 weeks, also no strenuous physical activity

  • no sauna or solarium for 6 weeks

  • stitches around the navel are removed after 7 days; the remaining stitches are self-dissolving

  • in rare cases: postoperative haemorrhage, bruising, infections, lymph accumulation (seroma)

  • sensory disturbances of the abdominal skin usually subside after the first few weeks

  • possible unsightly scars can be corrected at a later date (after one year)
